The future is hopeful again!
This book is comforting as I don’t feel alone in my struggles anymore. The language is clear and concise in explaining how to identify areas I need help in and then, the actions required to make the necessary changes. It’s written with compassion & kindness. I’m hopeful again.Thank you Dr. Seth J. Gillihan.

Comprehensive CBT interventions simplified for layperson's use...
Gillihan condenses CBT into applicable interventions that guide individuals to change negative thoughts, core beliefs, and maladaptive behaviors. As an mental health professional (MHP) with a Master's degree in psychotherapy (specifically, CBT), I endorse this book for individuals who are looking for practical tools and interventions to help with specific issues/problems. One premise of CBT is that we teach clients that the one hour of therapy session that focuses on the therapeutic relationship between therapist and client is not the primary agent of change. (This concept countermands other theoretical orientations and constructs in psychology in which the therapeutic relationship is the primary agent of change.) Rather, the therapy occurs when applying CBT interventions the other six days and 23 hours per week outside the therapy sessions and outside the therapist/client relationship. That does not mean that therapy sessions should not take place; however, the purpose of therapy is to equip clients with applicable tools and interventions that they can put into practice. Gillihan's book provides a comprehensive set of applicable CBT interventions that have been simplified for the layperson's use.(I do not know Seth J. Gillihan, Ph.D., and I purchased his book because of my CBT background.)-- Kat Foley, MA, MHP

A helpful book for a beginner learning to cope with anxiety
This is the first book I bought to help me deal with my anxieties and mental health. So far I’ve read almost half of the book and still continuing to read the rest. Each chapter is informative and I love that it has a “homework” section at the end of each chapter. With each homework, I would review my notes and answer the questions/tasks. These questions help with putting the information I’ve learned about into practice. It also helps show me how I’ve progressed from one chapter to the next. There are also good diagrams and sample forms to help me put my thoughts on paper for reference and analyzing purposes. It’s a good book for a beginner learner like me. However, I wish there were more clarity in the topics. At times, some sentences were redundant or didn’t really get straight to the point, which made it a bit confusing. Also, it would’ve been more helpful if the examples were applicable to different situations and not just focused of one specific case. But, this book is a good starting point to get the gist of how cbt can be helpful to someone who’s struggling with mental health like anxiety.I’m glad I bought this book. I’m able to see how my thinking has affected my behaviors a little clearer now. And I can say that my thinking has started to change for the better, since reading this book and putting the info I’ve learned into practice.Thank you for making this book available to people like me.
