Worth the price

Eliminated the nsg370 slop, reverse stays in place now. Took 25 minutes to install on a TJ. Shifts are stiff at first but loosen up over time

Great shifter if it doesn't leak

I've finally figured out how to get this shifter to not leak. This shifter is a great upgrade to shift quality. It takes about 500 miles for the shifter to loosen up a bit and after that the shifting is solid and predictable. No more 4th gear popping out. No more accidentally shifting into reverse when going to 6th.After about 10,000 miles with this shifter I found a leak. I was low about half a quart of fluid. The leak was not easy to find since it was so slow and the foam insulation around the shifter absorbed a lot of the fluid. The foam insulator also made it difficult to find the source of the leak.Ultimately, the leak came from the shifter boot where it seals around the shift shaft. It spits out just a little bit of fluid after each drive. It's not much and it's difficult to find because the fluid came out atomized.I used Permatex "The Right Stuff" 90-minute RTV gasket maker to seal the boot to the shift shaft. It has not leaked since after about 500 miles.I've also tried the following which I believe is good to do anyways.Permatex "The Right Stuff" 90-minute RTV gasket maker instead of the gasket to seal the shifter housing to the transmission. The provided gasket is trash. After 10,000 miles I was surprised to see its condition so deteriorated.Use a screw type band clamp to seal the shift boot to the shifter housing.Make sure your vent isn't plugged. I say this as to not overlook it as a possible culprit, but ultimately that wasn't the issue. That area of the shifter is well insulated from dust and debris. Mine was like brand new after 10,000 miles.B&M did send me a new boot and clamp when I discovered the leak. The clamp they provide, both for the new assembled unit and as a replacement, is trash as far as I'm concerned. Just use a screw type band clamp. Leave finicky compression clamps for CV shafts where the folks who rebuild those regularly have the special tools to clamp them effectively. The original clamp that came with my shifter was not clamped well. I recommend replacing it even on a new shifter unit.I'm still not happy that a $650+ shifter could leak this way with low miles, or at all. The seal design on the boot is poor and doesn't reflect what I expected of a brand like B&M. Of all the upgrades I've done to my Jeep this is the only one that's been this frustrating (Fusion axles, Metalcloak long arm suspension, transfer case swap, engine oil cooler, etc.)Extra: I look forward to when my clutch gives up. I'll likely swap to a Tremec 5-speed while I'm at it and send the NSG370 to the rebuilder for those who are happy with that transmission. All around not a terrible transmission but I'm ready for an upgrade.

5 month review

I installed the shifter about five months ago. I’m still thinking it was a good purchase. There is a bit of a learning curve to using it at first, but you get used to the added resistance fast. When it’s new, it’s stiff and you have to use a little force, but after a few months, it wears in a bit and gets pretty smooth. It has cleaned up my issues with getting into reverse for sure.I cheated when I installed it and didn’t install the foam donut, so that saved me from not having to drop the gas tank and mess with the trans mounts. I did everything from instead the Jeep. I may get motivated one day and install the donut. We’ll see. Probably not. Once you pull the shift knobs off and the center console out of the jeep, it’s four star screws, maybe a 20 minute job.Value for money? I mean, it’s expensive for sure. Yes, I’m glad I bought it once.Appearance? Looks stock unless you put the stickers on your jeep.

Highly recommended, worth every penny

Works like magic. Jeep 05 LJ was popping and grinding in reverse. Jeep has 4inch lift and this shifter solved it

Amazing Upgrade

Get it. Factory shifter sucks and you know it. It’s expensive, but not as costly as hating your Jeep and not wanting to drive it so you trade it in and buy another vehicle with a new set of problems. :)No more falling out of 1st and no more sloppy shifts. This thing makes you feel like you are in command of the shifting like it should.

Fixed my issue immediately.

I was installing it before a weekend wheeling trip and needed it so I went to a local big box and bought it. This thing is stiff, if you want smooth shifting this is not for you. My 2009 Jeep JK would almost not go into reverse. It would grind hard and in 4 low it was worse I would have to fight to get it into reverse. While it is not perfect now, If I am impatient I can make it grind, it is 5000% better than before. There is a cheaper alternative to the B&M by Dorman, but I can not speak to that one. If you are having issues with your jeep popping out of gear or grinding into reverse this should fix your problem, if not it's time for a new transmission. On my 09 there was no saving the gasket, the glue had let go and it basically fell apart so do yourself a favor, unless yours is a later model Jeep, go ahead and by the Mopar gasket, it's like $54 at the time of this review.

Fix for the Wrangler JKU manual transmission poppingout of gear

The media could not be loaded. Outstanding, Extremely well built! This fixed my 2008 Jeep Wrangler JKU manual transmission popping out of gear. The install is not for someone who is not very proficient with vehicle mechanics. On the Jeep Wrangler JKU you have to drop the skid plate, disconnect and lower the front of the gas tank 6 inches, disconnect and lower the transmission cross member 4 inches. You will need to purchase a foam transmission top gasket as the factory one will rip apart when you remove it. Also you will need to trim it to fit the B&M.If you are planning to do this install yourself watch the B&M YouTube videos on how to install this!Tool tip: go buy 1/4 drive Torx set you will need the smaller diameter for the B&M installation to the transmission as it’s much larger than the factory shifter.Overall I’m extremely happy with the B&M sport shifter, my Jeep is now safe as it doesn’t pop out of gear and it’s fun to bang through the gears with this shifter.
