My 10 yr old was the happy recipient of one of these for Christmas. She managed to set it up and get drawing with no help from the grown ups in about 5-10 minutes. The key to this is getting the viewer at the right angle to clearly see the image, and then keeping the paper still whilst drawing. We found sitting at the dining table was the easiest way to get comfortable and still, it definitely needs to be a on a solid surface. With a little bit of practice we have all managed to achieve some great results and I would recommend this. It came with some sheets of A4 paper and two sample pictures to get you started. Its really handy that it takes standard sized A4 sheets (unlike some similar models of a different make) as the paper is so easy to come by.When not in use, the instructions show how to take it apart and pack it away into itself for easy of transportation, which is something else we liked. My daughter is likely to take this to grandparents and friends houses so its handy to be able to fold it down easily and know that all the parts are secured. Much easier than relying on getting it back into the box.

I found this to be over-priced for what it was (cheap-looking plastic with a couple of mirrors) and to be honest I didn't hold out much hope that it was going to still be in one piece by the end of the day.Having said that, it does deliver what it promises and my son (aged 8) absolutely loves it! I literally can't drag him away from it, and after having a little go myself was very impressed with how it works.So, in summary, provided it lasts and doesn't fall apart when we try to transport it away from the kitchen table, I would say this is a great piece of kit for the budding artist or creative genius in your home.Would definitely recommend.

This neat wee drawing aid is a camera lucida in toy form. These things have been used by artists since the Renaissance, and notably by Englishman William Daniell who was one of the leading inspirations for JWM Turner. So criticisms that they're bad for developing drawing skills are utter hoo ha. They just help the inexpert a bit to develop the confidence that comes with expertise. This particular version was given for Christmas to an 11 year old girl who is becoming quite good at drawing and design, and, more important, seems to enjoy them. She thinks it is great. It ensures every element of her drawing is the right scale, shape and position. It goes with her everywhere, being put together and dismantled with ease by both herself and her younger brother. Any suggestion that it is awkward to handle is arrant rubbish. It IS only a toy, and works on a child scale. It helps successfully to copy other pictures or nearby small objects (e.g. a teddy). But a grown up one is vastly more expensive.

Doesn't work you can't see your own pencil so it makes it super difficult to actually draw. My son was megga disappointed!!!

Once we’d set it up , including cutting spare plastic away from where it’d been moulded , and accepting that some parts clip in and some didn’t , our Daughter enjoyed it.However , trying to put it away (as per instructions) after using it is pointless - the supposed clips to hold things in place in the base of the unit don’t.A shame - it’s a fine toy let down by poor build quality.

Daughter used once and it broke.Definitely would not recommend.

.... it helps her do some super drawings, although it's probably not the easiest thing to keep out. space-wise. I hope it's use endures.
