Happy customer, saved money
We bought this on Amazon and then paid British Gas to come and install it. Saved a bucket load of money compared to buying it from them directly. You need to make sure you've got the right type for your boiler. Great product for controlling your heating, only downside is a subscription is required if you want to use the more advanced features - but we're happy setting up schedules and being able to control from our phones.

Nice to be able to control from away… just a pain if your internet is dodgy as it struggles to reconnect itself, plus most annoyingly you have to pay a subscription if you want to use it for what it was designed for 🙈🙈

Simply Brilliant
This makes life so much easier especiallyfor those systems where you have to put the hot water on 1hr before you need it.This means you can switch on your central heating / hot where remotely which is greatfor those finishing work late.Everything is lightweight and easy to install.It’s made so simple that you can do it yourself within 30 mins.The wires in our existing system matches up identically to the hive system which made life easy. The only thing I didn’t do was remove the room thermostat because it means having to unwire it at a control panel near the boiler and in fear of breaking my system i decided not to… It all works perfectly regardless of this and I just turned the existing room thermostat to the highest setting so it won’t interfere.Already bought another one for my family.

Needs professional installation unless you are electrical savvy
Further update 5 Nov 2022: I got through to British Gas on their whatsapp number because of the system going offline randomly. It did take some time to get through but when the engineer came along, there is only one word that can describe the service he provided: SUPERB. His professionalism and expertise were absolutely A1 so adding another 2 stars to this review. Thank you KB.Original review:I was a bit apprehensive considering some of the nightmare stories but I guess I was lucky enough to find an electrician (not a British Gas person) who had done this before.I got the hub up and running before he arrived just in case I had to call for support - worked fine out of the box. However, I'd installed it in a temporary area and when I moved it to it's final resting place, had to restart the thermostat again (unplugging the battery is the only way of turning it off!)Turned it back on once the installer arrived and luckily the wiring of my boiler (Potterton control on a mexico boiler) was well done in the past and he took circa 30 minutes to install both the thermostat and the receiver. One gotcha was not uninstalling the old thermostat which meant it was still controlling the boiler.I had created a hive account and once the product was ready added the USB hub to the app.I have docked two stars because:1) There is no web interface to view/control the thermostat. Why should I have to download a 90 MB app on my phone!2) British Gas are rather cheap by shamefully asking for £4 (really?!) per month just to give you access to your usage data! The nest which is a learning thermostat doesn't need an app or any payment to share this data! There was a very good article online but I read it after I had already purchased the hivet3.com/news/5-things-i-wish-id-known-before-buying-a-hive-smart-thermostat. Hopefully B Gas will come to their senses and give users their data!

Great control for your heating system

Simple to set up and use
Being fed up with having a control unit in the loft instead of by the ground floor boiler, I went for a Hive to replace the Honeywell RF2 pack installed controlling my Grant oil fired boiler on a sealed system with hot water cylinder.The backplate on the Honeywell is compatible with the Hive controller but I couldn’t get it to fit as the inner casing of the Hive fouled the Honeywell backplate - no matter though as it took 5 mins to swap the old off and fit the Hive one; the wiring being the same.Once the simple to follow instructions were followed it was set up in a jiffy on the Hive app, schedules set and forgotten about, I no longer need to climb in to the loft to boost the hot water for a hour after the eldest daughter has a long shower!!!

Radiator valves and thermostat are poor
Absolutely awful. Support isn’t available on Sundays or evenings.The hive radiator thermostats I’ve bought 15 and 3 broke within 1 month, came home to 32 degree thermostats as the radiator valves had fully opened and the mechanical elemental won’t close. Tried to remove manually but unfortunately when twisting them and pressing the open valve it just continuously spins.The thermostat has been a nightmare, it’s only 6 months old and won’t connect to the WiFi or the “hive receiver” just sits on searching. Followed every help guide possible online for resetting the receiver, the WiFi hub and the thermostat but nothing works, batteries out, disconnect from mains, hold the buttons to reset etc. just flashes at me and the thermostat says searching. I’ve completely lost control of my heating and hot water.
