The media could not be loaded. This Old-Timer brand cordless knife is replacing a similar knife by Rapala. The selling point on the Old-Timer was the blade release mechanism. On the Rapala, buttons on each side of the knife body had to be pressed simultaneously to release the blades. Over time, these buttons wore out, making the blades extremely difficult to release. On the Old-Timer, a single release button is located on the top of the knife. The feel of this mechanism is superior, leaving the impression of a stronger and more durable release mechanism. Both knifes are similar in size, weight, and grip. The Old-Timer knife has a soft purr sound, like any other electric or cordless knife. While there are less expensive cordless knives on the market, I expect they are just that - less expensive. They appear to be built cheaply, not seeming to compare to the solid and durable feel of the Old-Timer. The Old-Timer and Rapala are comparable, but the Old-Timer was $30 less, feels better, and has a superior release mechanism. I recommend the Old-Timer as a Best-in-Class filet and carving knife.

Work great filleting fish, a whole lot easier than a regular fillet knife. Makes a tighter cut when removing skin side. Handle seem a bit thick and trigger pull is a little more stiff but still a good knife for the money.

This knife is awesome, boasting long battery use. I’m a fan!! Have cleaned a ton of fish with it. However I’m a a fillet guy. Just be careful certain fish with soft skin it will cut right through. That being said I love the knife and use it on tougher fish

Easy to use and clean.

Was ok while it worked, but in less than a year, after only a handful of uses it died. I took apart to try and fix and it looks like there are vents on the side of the handle that let moisture in. When wiping down handle after used some water entered the base and coroded the battery connection. Not worth the time or dime to repair. Also, it only works when unplugged, so if it is dying on you it wont work until chaged a bit, bummer if you have only a few slices left to do. It was marketed as a fishing filet knife, though not designed to be able to wash the fish guts off w/o damaging it. Live and learn.
