Great knife holds up, stays sharp. Great marlin spike.

I've had this knife for almost three years. It's always been the most reachable riggers knife on board every boat I've been on and it's the only marlin spike I or anyone I've sailed with has ever used. Despite months at sea (7000 nm in the past three months) it hasn't rusted, the blade is still sharp, the folding mechanism still works like new. (I've got other knives that the salt blunts the edge and corrodes the mechanism.) The pliers have good leverage, but they aren't that useful. They can't hold a hex nut of any size. The marlin spike is really useful. I've used its entire length to untie granny knots and leverage open force jammed knits. I always have a cord tied to it with a carabiner on the other end. Absolutely essential sailing gear.

Worth the purchase

Edit: I have used this almost daily since purchasing it, and absolutely love it. Still looks like the day I bought it. The catches for the blade and marlin spike still work perfectly. It is a heavy duty and useful set of tools in one attractive package- highly recommended!

liked the overall quality and looks of the knife. I use it when sailing on my Pearson boat.Didn't like the de-burring on the inside folded SS body. (to sharp). Also the lanyard should have a inside radius to protect the strap.

My sailor loved it

He finally took a good look at it after Christmas and is impressed with its sturdiness. He loves all the parts especially the knife as it can also cut cábele if need be.

Could be great, but...

I purchased this knife about a year ago, so it has now seen a full season of chores on a saltwater sailboat. First the good. It is an amazing design. The ergonomics are perfect, at least for big hands. It has not corroded all that bad, even though I have seldom cleaned it, but improvements could be made in some areas. The marlin spike has the most helpful tapper, angle and reach of any I have ever used. The pliers are just the right size for loosening tight shackles, and the blade is set a a great angle for cutting line . But here is where the bad really starts , it is ridiculously dull, and the little cutting power it had when new quickly disappeared. If it came with an impressive edge that would have lasted for at least 50 cuts, I probably would have invested in the tiny files needed to sharpen it's serrated edge, but I am not going to through time and money at bad steal. So I recently invested in a knife that will cut quickly, because my life may depend on it. With that said, my new knife does not have a spike or shackle tool because this one works for that.If this company took the time and invested in taking this design to the next level, so that sailors could actually use the blade, also perhaps beefed up the locking steel and integrity of other load bearing parts, they could probably charge 4X as much.Maybe a quality knife company could just lift the strong points of this knife and produce a real sailors knife. It may be a small market, but there is not a lot of competition, and we are a serious bunch when it comes to our kit.

Started rusting in a few months.

Purchased this after I lost my Myerchin overboard. This knife started to rust in less than 6 months.
