Q: will this work on stainless steel?

Anytime you drill (or in this case drill and tap at same time!) any hardened steel (stainless. high carbon, iron etc..) you must use drill oil - u can find this in any big box store, hardware store or here on Amazon - this is a specialized oil that is used to lubricate and cool drill bit as it cuts through the steel. I broke several expensive bits trying to dry drill through 18 gauge stainless steel plate - then used oil and drilled at moderate speed with medium pressure - with regular stops every 60-90 seconds (lift bit out of hole while drill is still spinning to get burrs out of hole, cool bit and to add more oil if needed - keep a few drops of oil in hole & on bit at all times). Excessive pressure, drill time & speed will overheat material and bit - this can damage, dull or break bit - take your time, use a hardened steel punch in the beginning to set your bit exactly where u want to drill so it doesn't walk when u start, use drill/tap oil to lube, cool and assist cutting, set drill to appropriate speed for bit and type of metal u r drilling (google metal, thickness and drill type for estimate RPM), take your time and don't apply too much pressure - let the bit and oil do the work, keep drill perfectly vertical (90 degree) - use a drill guide to help keep it straight especially of you are tapping hole for a screw/bolt. You'll find your bits will last longer, stay sharper and less fatigue on you, your drill motor/battery and bit. Q: Would this set work for 6-32 motherboard standoff screws? I don't know what the "nc" stands for. Thank you.

6 refers to the dia of the screw and the 32 is the number of threads per inch. Match those two and you're golden.
