Audiophile quality turntable at a good price

First. I had a Project Primary and am comparing it with the T1. The T1 is new plug and play audiophile turntable, but the features that it has are in much more expensive ones. The T1 is a turntable that is a must to have with a decent audiophile amplifier if you really want to hear its benefits.I am using an Emotiva TA-100 amplifier and a couple of"modified myself" Dayton Audio MK442 monitors with a subwoofer. I also have an acrylic mat which improves sound. The version of the T1 I am using is the bare basic model. The REAL glass platter (something you find on Rega turntables) improves sound quality by using the weight to stabilize speed and the viscus liquid of the glass creates an excellent vibration and reflection reducer found on more expensive turntables. Do not be fooled by it's thin appearance. It has plenty of control to create a virtual silent noise floor. The sub-platter uses anti-vibration materials and reinforced ridges and contacts the glass plate on the edges to further reduce vibration transfer. Micro density fiberboard (MDF) plinth has minimal holes and the sub-platter rests on a brass bearing and the sleeve has a 0.0001 inch tolerance. (Setting the sub-platter spindle down into the sleeve actually holds air pressure as is sets into place and you have to wait for the air pressure to release before it sets down completely. That's HOW precise it is!The cables that come with it are not cheap. They are low resistance gauge quality cables. An alignment protractor and stylus tracking force scale comes with it, just incase you want to fiddle with it, but the turntable should come aligned and tracking force set at factory. In honestly, mine came NOT set. No big deal to me because I was going to check it anyway... just to make sure. The tone arm has brass bearings. And they are feather lite with no resistance. But, the strange thing is there is no anti-skating adjustment. The tone arm is actually optimized not to skate. (That is what most people are saying. There is no counteractive force stopping the centripetal force from happening, but uses a drop a down weight. This causes the balancing point on the rack and pinion bearings to be slightly behind the fulcrum reducing the centripetal force.(Don't believe me?)Tie a nut to some fishing line. Make a loop on a piece of thin stiff wire and stick the bottom of it on the plinth with some putty on an angle so the loop is sticking up. Loop one end of the fishing line, put it through the wire loop and attach it onto the head shell and place the nut on a digital scale. Let the needle drop onto an acrylic mat (you can do that without damaging the record) and measure the force when the string stops the tone arm and tightens the string. It came out to 0.04 grams of centripetal force at 2 grams of tracking force on the stock om5e.The Om is a cartridge that is a superior tracker providing above average ability to stay in the groove. Testing with headphones I found no customary distortion caused by excess centripetal force riding the inner groove. It does what it is supposed to do. Now damage to the record is another story. It won't stop skipping from damage. But even if you tried to use more force if you could... it would cause distortion. All in all, after checking it all out the sound quality of the Pro-Ject T1 is fantastic as long as you have equipment to allow it produce what it can give you and since other turntables that use real glass platters can cost twice as much, I believe the T1 is the best value and is built to do the job!

Very nice turntable

I picked this one per my friend’s ,who is a recording collector and musician, recommendation. Only downside is the tone arm doesn’t go back when the record is over. But that I can live with for the sound and aesthetic of this record player. I chose this bec it is Made in the Czech Republic, solid system that doesn’t break the bank. I’ve had my player for a month now and with regular use. I don’t anticipate any issues with it. Have a glass turntable ensures stability of the player. It’s plug and play too. No hard set up or balancing of the tone arm needed

Nice unit

Great turntable but like others I upgraded the cartridge immediately. Wish the mfr had options for that instead of paying for unused (inferior) components.

A serious turntable that has fit and finish

I have the piano black version. The table feels way more expensive than the modest cost. It sounds nice. really nice with the installed om 5e, which you can upgrade easily to the other OM line. Nice glass platter, thick belt, and was set up perfect. That is big news to folks that go down the rabbit hole fooling around with alignment, VTF, and azimuth. This is set up exactly the correct height for the OM using the included felt mat. The power button is hidden from view which some will like, but it is a tad awkward cause it can move the table when pressing the toggle if not careful. No big deal and most wont have an issue. This table also has a cue lever that's a nice add. The tonearm allows handling that makes it easy to place on the tracks you wish. Human friendly. Last thing is it has attached cables that are the nicest turntable cables I've ever seen. Removes the need to search for ultra low capacitance cables to attach to preamp. Also has built in ground. No hum at all.

Arrived damaged.

Item arrived from Turntable Lab resealed. This turntable has a hollow aluminum tonearm. At the back is a steel shaft glued into the back of the tonearm with a counter weight that has a soft rubber bushing and an Allen screw. The steel shaft had broken loose from the tonearm. It either broke off from shipping or someone trying to adjust it. The box had been resealed , and shipped to me in an outer box. I suspect it was returned, and resold. Either way someone had looked or handled it and the vendor failed to send me a new item. Total BS ! I bought this as a gift for my daughter as she wanted her first TT. She opened it as I watched and that’s what we found. I was sad to see this situation as it was her birthday gift. As an experienced audiophile with a highly modified Thorens in my system, I took the steps necessary to get it going. This one included repairing the arm, aligning the cartridge and setting the weight with a proper electronic scale and protractor. So my plug and play unit now works after 2 hours of repair and setup. Would not have been possible without my existing tools. All this happened today and I left her house with her spinning some virgin vinyl. I’ll think about it for a couple days and check back with her. I understand this is an entry level item, but what a poor user experience. Hope you have better luck.
