Handy USB Hub with Limitations for High-Power Devices

The 7-Port USB Hub with Individual On/Off Power Switches is a convenient and compact solution for expanding your USB connectivity, especially in a pinch. It’s a good little hub for those who need to connect multiple low-power devices to their laptop or computer. However, it’s important to note that this hub does not come with its own power supply, which means it struggles to cope with too many high-power items at once unless you are very selective about what you connect. One of the drawbacks is the short USB cable provided to connect the hub to your computer or laptop. While this might be fine for laptop users, it poses a challenge for desktop setups. I wanted to place the hub on my desk with the tower unit underneath, but even with the tower’s USB socket on top, the cable was too short. I had to purchase an additional cable to extend the reach, which was a bit inconvenient. As an unpowered hub, it relies on the standard 5V 1amp from a USB port, limiting its ability to support all seven ports simultaneously unless they are low-draw devices. Despite these limitations, the individual on/off power switches for each port are a nice touch, allowing you to manage your connected devices efficiently. Overall, this USB hub is a handy tool for light use, but it’s essential to be aware of its power constraints and the need for additional cabling in certain setups.

Multi USB 2.0 Data Splitter with Individual On/Off Power Switches and Lights

At a pinch, this is a good little USB hub. It doesn't have it's own power supply, so cannot cope with too many items at once unless you're very selective (and because of this, the lights showing each one is on or off seem a bit superfluous, especially bearing in mind you have a switch next to each port obviously showing whether it is on or off anyway). The switches themselves have a good firm "click" to them. The USB cable to connect to your computer/laptop is very short. For a laptop, it's probably fine, however, I wanted it to connect to my computer, with this item on the desk and the tower unit underneath. Even with the tower unit having USB socket on top of it, the cable would not reach so I had to buy an extra cable to lengthen it.I mainly wanted it because I have two sets of headphones (one for work, and one for gaming) and wanted to be able to switch easily between the two without having to disconnect/plug in all the time. Unfortunately, although this worked for my work headphones, Windows just refused to acknowledge my gaming headset - I'm guessing they're probably USB-3 and it probably couldn't cope with them. So, as long as you're not looking to use anything that will use a lot of power, and is okay with USB 2, and don't need a long cable between it and the device you're plugging it into .. it's a good little item - certainly considering the very reasonable price.----------For information, I tend to give my "star rating" based on the following system:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – A great product that exceeded my expectations.⭐⭐⭐⭐ – A good product that generally met my expectations and the claims of the seller.⭐⭐⭐ – A reasonable product but could be better for the money/in relation to the claims of the seller.⭐⭐ - A product that definitely needs improvement - poor quality/poor value for money.⭐ - Very bad quality and/or value for money. Doesn't live up to sellers claims. Stay away.

Basic Unpowered USB 2.0 Hub

Being USB 2.0 this hub is only really suitable for low bandwidth peripherals these days like keyboards and mice, although I'm sure there are some specialist applications out there that could make use of this, USB 3.0 is essential in 2024 in my opinion as it allows high speed devices like storage drives to be used to their full potential. The cable is long enough at around 44cm, but is quite thin and is slightly loose on the product I received. The hub itself is light, but doesn't look cheap, the on/off switches are a nice touch and have a good action to them.I plugged the hub into my Windows desktop and it was recognised straight away, then once I plugged in a USB device and switched the port on it was picked up by Windows without issue. This is an unpowered hub, so without an external power supply you are limited to around 5V 1amp from a standard USB port, which means if you want to use all 7 ports they will need to be low draw devices (e.g. keyboards without lighting), the hub does have a small barrel plug port, but it's not a standard size and as the product doesn't come with an instruction manual or any sort of documentation, it's impossible to know what sort of power supply would suit. I would assume 5V, but not sure what sort of amps it would expect, or what size plug is needed.

Unfortunately didn't work in my set up.

Recently I have had a lot of trouble with multi input adapters. None have allowed their full complement of inputs to function and also when restarting my PC, with an adapter plugged in, the PC sometimes refuses to start first time. It will restart with a bit of extra input from me but it is a pain.So what do I want from this device? Firstly I hope I can feed multiple hard drives into my laptop and secondly I want seamless restarts. If this is not possible I will settle for connecting three or four hard drives to this adapter and using just one at a time by use of the switches. I will even settle for having to switch all inputs off if that will allow restarts of my PC without me having to intervene. I am keeping my fingers crossed. One small niggle about this device is the fixed input cable. It's a bog standard PVC type , which are prone to splitting, and is very thin. I would have preferred no cable but an input port so that I could use a braided cable of an appropriate length for my needs. As it is if this cable fails then the unit is dead. Also the unit is very plasticky and feels very cheap.Worse than any of it's other faults was that none of the connected devices showed up on my PC, not one. This was a worse performance than my other adapters which did at least allow one hard drive to be accessed.Value wise I can only say the adapter is worthless to me and I cannot recommend it. However that is not to say that it won't work perfectly well in your set up and so may be worth a try.
