Q: Does the volume knob control the rca output as well as the headphone jack? i'd like to know if i could connect a pair of active monitors.

Q: Does unit memorise volume setting when unit is switched off, or does it need to be readjusted when unit is switched back on?

I cannot truly answer for this as the DAC I purchased earlier merely converted optical to RCA (phono) outputs. I can only summize that the volume control is only a variable resistor for the amplifier is on the analogue side of the converter and whatever set at would remain the same after switched back on.

Q: Can the headphone port capture my voice from my gaming microphone?

I would be very surprised as the headphone port is an output not an input, so doubt a combined jack plug with headphones and mike would work.

Q: If i plug my headset into this will my mic still work on my ps4 I use the optical?

If your headset uses the same plug for mic and headphones of course it WONT work. If there are two separate plugs for mic and headphones you should be ok.
