These secateurs are beautifully sharp, well balanced and have a grip that makes them comfortable and effective to use. The selectable two-position switch that allows you to set the width of the blade gap is quite a nice touch (even if the slider is a little bit fiddly to select) and I think does help in speeding up things when you have a lot of pruning to carry out on narrow stems and twigs etc. The cutting action is always clean and smooth and so far I have never had a problem with any type of mangling or bruising from these secateurs, even on soft growth. The only thing I would say is to be aware that they are quite compact and may prove to be a little small for some people. Having size 12 feet means my hands are on the big side and these secateurs do feel very slightly on the small side when I use them while wearing gloves. However, without gloves I find them perfectly fine. I think they would be particularly ideal for lady gardeners looking for a good value, effective and comfortable pair of bypass secateurs.

I had an overgrown climbing rose that had really got out of hand. These secateurs handled all the different thickness of stems and branches with ease. Brilliant.

Quality secateurs, light and easy to use when pruning roses and other shrubs. Unfortunately the spring has been lost as it fell out while trimming a bushy shrub never to be found. Absolutely impossible to get a new coiled spring of the correct thickness and load/tension either from Spear & Jackson or anywhere else, plenty of the compressing cylinder springs but they're all too narrow to fit over the spring posts on this model.

These are really excellent secateurs. Purchased through Amazon, I bought them for my wife, a keen gardener who has always had problems with secateurs because she has quite small hands. Most secateurs are just too big to grip for her to use comfortably. More recently, her hands have stiffened with age which has added to her problems. Searching for some new ones, we came accross the Spear and Jackson product in reviews in gardening magazines and were particularly impressed by Which? making them a best buy. Having used them for some weeks, she finds them first rate. They are adjustable for small hands, have a smooth and not too demanding action. They are not too heavy and feel well made. Perhaps they might be too brightly coloured for some but secatuers are frequently put down between uses so being brightly coloured is a help in spotting where you have put them when you need them again. Overall, highly recommended.

I love this secateurs. It is small & light so fits nicely into my pocket. It feels substantial although light & it is very comfortable to hold & easy to open or close while working with one hand. I use it a lot for dead-heading small plants like pinks & equally for trimming woody shrubs. The open/close catch works very well & is easy to flick with the thumb. The double width catch is very easy to use but I have not found it necessary yet as the blade opens well in the single width. I would certainly recommend this model.

I have had and used these secateurs for a while and don’t know how I managed without them. They are wonderful. They cut through thicker branches than I had thought they could and very easily. I have small hands and they fit well as they are not at all bulky. They are strongly recommended.

These secateurs are excellent , sharp, easy to use and comfortable to hold. They were not expensive . I would buy again.

Good value for money sequiturs

The best pruner shears I've used! Bought them to help cut down bamboo. I cut the bamboo with a rachet-action shears, and use this little marval to remove the branches. Tough job, but they are extremely sharp shears, and have no problem.

These secateurs are sharp, and easy to use. Clearly not designed or intended for lopping off large branches, but around the garden very satisfactory.

Ho diversi utensili della S&J e li trovo ottimi.Questa cesoia è molto comoda, leggera e pratica. Unico neo è che ogni tanto salta il pulsante che regola l'apertura del manico e che essendo leggera, l'umidità dei rami freschi (della mia siepe di piracanta) fa bloccare le lame.
