H.R. Giger: Debbie Harry Metamorphosis: Creating the Visual Concept for KooKoo

Finally !! Chris Stein adds to his 21st Century work as a coffee table book author and a rock and roll photographer of the 70s and 80s and beyond Rare photos of the process of making Koo Koos album artwork and videos plus sessions that didn't make it to public attention. Chris captures with his photography the essence of the macabre world of H.R Giger's contribution to Debbie Harry's first solo project and possibly her most ambitious of the five albums she has recorded. Debbie contributes many pages of her thoughts of Giger and the project that ( in 1981) was well ahead of its time both musically as a collaboration with Chic's Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards production and the fusion of rock jazz punk pop and techno and an homage to art rock not in fashion in 1981. Must have for any GIger Debbie Harry or Art enthusiast. Not many coffee table books are published 42 years later of an album that barely went gold and was too extreme for 1981 radio and music buyers. Hopefully the re release of the album in May will generate interest from younger audiences . Five Stars.

My fave movie franchise is Alien and H.R. Giger has obvious connections with that.One of my fave music acts is Debbie Harry/Blondie and I really love Debbie's solo album Koo Koo which Giger also was involved with visually, so this book was a must for me with a load of rare and previously unseen photos and background story of Debbie's look while making this great album.My only small gripe is it's a little expensive.

Blondie is one of my greatest influences. Science fiction and ancient Egyptian cultures are extremely important for me, and I follow eastern spiritual and health practices, including acupuncture, so I’m geeking out hugging the book to my face.It’s a wonderfully sizable edition, filled with rare images. The stories behind the collaboration are really cool and it’s finely printed to capture the richness and subtle details of Giger/Stein’s compositions. Debbie’s portraits are a dark and even startling divergence from her familiar styles. No spoiler; she’s hauntingly beautiful.

Giger is a special artist and his work justly celebrated. Here is featured is his work with Debbie Harry. Qualities all his own is at the forefront. Organic and morbid even. Somewhat a fascination with horror! I simply love that here. I believe especially that his work is most approachable here. And the deluxe feel of this book is much appreciated.
