Very fun soldering project kit.
I love soldering projects, and this is a great little kit. It was well documented and videos are available online as well. It was easy to assemble and the LEDs are bright! The ONLY thing I wish was different was that it had a standard USB connector instead of the barrel connector, but no big deal. I bought and assembled 3 of these for my family and they love them as much as I loved assembling them.

Fun hobby project
Great way to learn how to solder. Can be a great stocking stuffer.

Great beginner project with some help
I bought this as a start kit for my eleven year old that was interested in learning to solder. The included instructions would be difficult to follow for a beginner but the instructions in the link/QR code include pictures with highlights and make it rather simple to follow. As pointed out in other reviews, there are solder pads on the top and bottom of the board so you can solder from the top if that makes it easier for you. Pay attention that the squares are the positive side of the components for the LEDs and capacitors. The hardest part was probably clipping, stripping and soldering the battery wires as they are extra long and can be trimmed to length for a cleaner look.It is really nice that it works with batteries or a cable as my child was excited to bring it to school and show their friends this project and then at home we can leave it plugged in for a longer display time. The LEDs are all multicolor so it doesn't matter which LED goes where and the final product was quite beautiful as a decoration for a beginner soldering kit. Much better than the blinky light kit I started with when I was younger.

Great soldering practice, if you really know how circuits work to decipher the instructions.
The Christmas tree kit was well packaged, compact, and shipped quickly. The kit came complete with all the parts (and a couple extra parts just in case!) and boards with clear silk-screening with well-spaced part positions. I reviewed the instructions, and thought them minimalistic, but serviceable. and gave the kit to my 16 year old daughter who has made many soldering projects (never from a kit.) While her soldering skills are excellent, her understanding of circuitry is minimal as she normally just carefully follows youtube or instructable directions. She assembled the LED tree but could not get it to work. One of the tiny machine screws and nuts would not thread, so she soldered the tree together with only one screw in place, resulting in the tree being slightly crooked. It will not light up at all, with no indication that power is applied. The daughter complained that the instructions were not clear, and I believe that she refers in part to LED and other parts' correct orientations in the boards are not explicitly explained. The instructions also leave to the reader the task of deciphering the orientation intended for the tree boards to fit into the base, as it is possible to fit them together in at least two configurations and the photos are not enough to distinguish which is correct. She said she did refer to the online instructions as well. Most of these deficiencies in the instructions I suspect can be sorted out by careful examination of the parts and understanding the circuitry involved and using that understanding to decipher the correct connection points, but now the kit is not just a soldering practice, but an exercise in electronics circuit comprehension at the same time.I have tried to leave the kit entirely to her, to judge how suitable it is for a beginner. I suspect that one or more of the following are likely reasons the project will not light up:1. the LEDs are soldered in backwards (wrong polarity) (and possibly damaged because of this)2. The connections between the tree and the base are not well soldered (no power), or are rotated 90 degrees for the wrong polarity. In the end, I think this is a great kit for a beginner at soldering, but you have to have more than a budding knowledge of circuitry to make it a success.

Cool Little Practice Kit
I bought and assembled this kit as a fun little way to celebrate Christmas this year. It was surprisingly very gratifying to do. Sometimes the trivial things in life can be the most impactful.Just but be careful that you don't accidentally solder the on/off switch facing the wrong way lol.Anyways, these little solder kits are great and you should absolutely give it a try. I definitely plan on picking up some of the other ones that they sell (the lamp kit looks pretty rad). Also, if you're interested in delving into electronics some more, check out "Crash Course Electronics & PCB Design" by Andre LaMothe on Udemy. It's probably one of the best resources on the internet for getting started.

My mistake
Ok, so I soldered two wrong and it didn't work nor could I desoldered it to correct. The most annoying is when you try to stand the tree. It kept falling as I try to insert the legs through the hole. A tad bit more material would make it better.Hope it works for you guys and pay attention to details.

Great little XMAS tree kit
The kit was easy to assemble with basic soldering skills and looks great. The option to power it off of USB or battery makes using it flexible. The only thing that I would suggest is that the instructions provide guidance on using different resistors to adjust the brightness of the LEDs. It would be great if they included these resistors in the kit. Yes I know that would mean extra parts, but they cost pennies and it would give the user the option without having to find replacements. The included value results in the LEDs being pretty bright.
