Actually, they claim to be made in Japan but they are actually manufacturered in China. That bit seems to be a misrepresentation. I bought one here from Amazon, and the box it was packed in clearly shows “Made in China”. I’m not happy about it, either.

Regarding how to sharpen a pencil, with the handle on the right side, insert the pencil as far as it will go with the knob on the other side and the knob on the front side, and move the parts away from the main body with the pencil in between, and then move the handle. Turn to sharpen.
