Q: Would it be okay to use this instead of pumice in a "mechanic" soap? I make soaps and want to make a garage soap for my hubby who works on cars.

I use these in my handmade soaps for a little bit of scrubby. They are well rounded and you need quite a bit. I use a whole bag per 2lbs of soap and it provides a very gentle scrub. I'm not sure this would give the same scrub power as pumice but it certainly is nice in soap. They also tend to sink if your soaps on the softer side. They also have a very mild nutty scent which I enjoy !

Q: Can i use this powder to tint my hair?

No, this is intended to be used for facial scrub or mask formulations. It does not release any color to tint hair. You might be looking for black walnut hull powder which is used for Coloring hair.

Q: Is this larger and more abrasive than white sugar for instance? How is it in comparison?

It is very fine not as course as white sugar

Q: Can you use this in soap making?

Yes this can be used in cold process soap making. However please keep in mind that this product makes a very strong exfoliant. My husband loves the exfoliating soap I make with this but I can't use it because it is too abrasive for my skin. If you have sensitive of tender skin I do not recommend this.
