A Cut Above the Rest: Slice 10524 Ceramic Utility Blades

For anyone working with utility blades and knives on a daily basis, safety is paramount. The Slice 10524 Ceramic Utility Blades not only meet but exceed expectations in this regard. As someone who has experienced injuries from utility blades, both due to my own actions and those of others, I cannot recommend these ceramic blades enough.Installation is a breeze, and once in place, these blades deliver exceptional performance. Some reviews suggest they struggle with cutting through cardboard or tape, but I'd question whether the blades were installed correctly. Personally, I have these blades in a Milwaukee Fastback 6-in-1 utility knife, and the difference is nothing short of a game-changer.What sets these blades apart is the safety they provide. The ceramic construction eliminates the risk of accidentally opening a blade and exposing yourself to a rusty piece of steel. The safety tip adds an extra layer of security, allowing you to confidently use your utility knife without the constant worry of potential injuries. If you value safety without compromising on performance, the Slice 10524 Ceramic Utility Blades are a must-have for your toolkit.

Great blade but they are thicker than steel blades

Great blade but they are thicker than steel blades. I bought to use in my EDC 4 in 1 Slim Utility Knife but they are just a little too thick to fit and won't slide out. Would work fine in most other utility knives.

Pricey but functions as advertised

It's expensive when you consider a traditional steel utility blade can be had for 1/10th or less of the price. So their argument about it being cheaper is specious, it's really a wash because their blades cost 10 times more. But I bought into their claim of safety and longevity - I don't think I'll ever need to buy anymore replacement blades in my lifetime. I'm always paranoid about cutting myself or someone else when I'm cutting up my Amazon boxes for recycling, so I got this to replace the dull, chipped, steel blade in my utility knife, and it fits perfectly as advertised. It cuts like a hot knife through butter, smoother and with less drag than the steel blade. Sometimes it's just worth it to spend the extra money.

Meh. Just sorta sharp.

I've used several brands of ceramic blades and these are by far the most 'dull' out of the box I've ever used. I figured a ceramic razor was a ceramic razor. I was wrong. These are ok in the sense that they have a blunted tip - keeps from poking yourself I guess, but still gives you a sharp corner to start a cut with. It's just that you need to use some pretty good pressure to get even a reasonably clean cut. Ive used a previous generic ceramic blade and then DeWalt carbide edge and both were exceptionally sharp (especially the DeWalt carbide), but the corners on the ceramic were brittle and the carbide is also prone to cracking should you hit something hard, so I was REALLY hoping these were going to be the best middle ground.Unfortunately not. I suppose these are fine for general usage, but if you're looking for a precision and exceptionally sharp edge, keep looking.

Safety

We fully switched to these for safety reasons. Excellent alternative for standard steel blades, especially if you're thinking hand safety and cut safety. It appears more dull than steel blades but we haven't had any issues with cutting. Be sure to read the technical information and compare it to what you currently use, so you know what you're getting into. These will not fit some knives.

Big Hype, Little Value

These blades claim to last 11x longer than steel, but they cost 30x as much! That said, they are sharp, but don't feel as sharp as their steel brethren when starting a cut, and don't glide as well when cutting thick materials. As far as "lasting longer," After a week or so of mostly opening boxes and similar household jobs, I can already see some damage to the edge of my first blade. If it was a cheap (~30 cents) steel one, it'd be time to flip it around or chuck it. But because this blade cost $9 (!!!), I feel like I have to keep using it to "get my money's worth" or something.Overall, skip the hype - buy some high quality steel blades (e.g. Fiskars) and always have a sharp one on hand for a fraction of the cost.

Not super sharp

Update:The blade is having trouble removing some fairly thin box tops, so I have removed an additional star. This blade is really only good for opening up packages. I will stick to a traditional Utility knife from now on.I got this as a replacement for my utility knife that I E(very)D(ay)C(arry). It isn't as sharp as my other blade (Stanley Utility Blades). It isn't that great on cardboard (box top removal). The Stanley Utility Blades are ~ $12 for 100 blades. So, $0.12 per blade * 11 = $1.32 versus $9.00 for a Slice blade. So the Slice blade costs much more, and isn't as sharp.I don't think the Slice blade is the correct choice for the average user. You should only get it if you are worried about your high carbon blade rusting, need something that is non-conductive, & non-sparking.One of the benefits of the blade is that it boasts that it has a finger friendly edge. Also, it has 4 notches at the top of the blade (Stanley only has two).I am just going to leave the blade in a utility knife that is locked away in my tool box. I don't have to worry about rust, but this is NOT the best purchase I have made.Bottom line: Unless you need the special properties, just get a traditional utility blade. It isn't worth the extra cost otherwise.
