Pick a Pumpkin

Fantastic words married with the most beautiful illustrations. A dream pairing looking forward to sharing this with my daughter this year.

I bought this based on the fact that my children had loved the Christmas version “Pick a Pine Tree”; they really liked the illustrations. They have equally loved reading this story.The cover is really pretty with gold foil highlights and a good quality paperback. The illustrations are of a similar style to the Christmas book, although the pages feel quite dark. We used it as a talking point to think about why that fits with this season! The story itself held their attention and hey have asked to read it multiple times!We read the book before visiting a pumpkin patch and then did some crafts (decorating paper dolls with costumes and leaf printing) so it would work well as a focus book for play set ups!

The illustrations in this book are beautiful. They bring to life the magic of the season and the warmth of Autumn colours. The story is a lovely, rhyming tale which seems tailored towards US children but works perfectly well for UK children too as we get more and more into the seasonal fun of Halloween like our US counterparts! My 3 year old loves this book too. Will definitely be purchasing the Christmas version.

Beautifully illustrated book, but the writing, in my opinion, is poor. The rhyming and rhythm is inconsistent making it unpleasant to read. My 2 year old didn't like the book as much as I thought he would when I read it to him, so we made our own story based on the illustrations which he engages with and enjoys. Again, the illustrations are beautiful, it's just the writing I find poor.

Simply one of the nicest illustrated children's books I've seen! I bought as a gift for my daughter ahead of us going pumpkin picking for the first time in a few weeks.I think I enjoy reading it and looking at the pictures as much she enjoys having it read to her! I love it so much I immediately bought one for my daughter's friend too!

I bought this book for my Halloween-loving toddler, and what a delightful book it has turned out to be!My child loves it, and it is often on the bedtime reading list.I love it for the friendly rhythm and rhyme if the text, for the interesting illustrations, for the vocabulary it teaches, and for no questionable content (some books are not exactly gentle and vegan parenting compatible).In fact, we love this book so much, we searched for, and bought, more from this author!

We got 'Pick A Pine Tree' last Christmas and so when this was released it was a must buy as its predecessor is a gorgeous book. This book did not disappoint. It goes into so much detail from picking the pumpkin, to carving it, to celebrating Halloween. I used it with my little boy the recount our own experiences of picking and carving our pumpkins. The illustrations are beautiful and really add to the story. If you don't have this in your collection then definitely order one. You won't be disappointed.

It's March. My kid still insists on reading this.
