Was supposed to be for the kids...but...

We lost this a year ago before a birthday and found it a while later. The kids stopped playing the game, so I figured I'd use it on my walks with my wife. This thing is both stupid and awesome. Removing the band to use the charger makes me think I'm going to break it every time. I haven't yet, so it's durable, but you have to pull hard and at an angle.Plugging it into the charger is tricky, because it wiggles around, but you figure it out.Using the interface is simple and stupid. Only one side of the screen recognizes touch, so even if the UI shows a checkbox on the other side, only the one side will care if you're touching it. You have to touch and hold to get to the settings page (versus just a touch to turn it on). When on the setting page, you need to tap on each screen to move to the next screen, or press and hold to toggle the setting on or off. This isn't really intuitive at first, and you aren't sure what you are turning on or off.You want vibration off, as it is noisy. You want to turn on spinning the stops, catching pokemon, and catching new pokemon. It's not easy connecting to the phone at first (or obvious), but once you do it once it works well afterwards. Wearing the device is a bit of a pain if you want to cross your arms, and you frequently can start up the settings, and turn off various settings, because the touch sensor is so sensitive. All this sounds like criticism, but the fact is that it is a simple device that gives you the option to spin stops and catch pokemon when you're not paying attention. That's cool and useful. It's allowed me to catch a ton of stuff, and collect a lot of items, when I'd otherwise be distracted.THAT BEING SAID, it's important to know what it actually does. Every few seconds, it will try to do about 3 actions. Whether those actions are successful or not, it doesn't matter. There is a pause, and then a few more actions. I share this because if you're walking through a park, you may not spin every stop and clear every pokemon, because you'll be out of range before it has time to rotate through everything. If there are no pokemon, you'll spin stops easily and quickly. If there are pokemon, it tries to catch those first before the stops, so spinning those can be your job while it tries to catch the pokemon. It ONLY uses your regular balls, and stops trying when you're out. It will try to spin stops, but obviously stops when your bag is full. I've ended up with a ton of blue and black balls and zero red ones...making the device a bit worthless until I restock, but at least it helps with spinning stops (and works if you drive around 25mph)The throws are with basic balls, and basic stats of catching or not. A ton of things run away. You won't catch everything...but that's okay. I open the game and find that I've picked up shinies and tons of stuff I otherwise wouldn't have caught. It only works when the game is running on your phone, but your phone screen can be off and it can be in your pocket. It is important to note that some apps will terminate the game (like Maps or your camera), so if you're using those apps, you may find you aren't catching anything. The device turns off after 30-45 minutes, even if it has power left, so you just have to reconnect it (takes maybe 10 seconds), which is fine to me.This is a good purchase. It's throttled and measured to not be too overpowered...but as long as you understand that, and how it works, it's a great investment if you enjoy the game. If nothing else, it allows you to gain the benefit of being in parks and public areas, when you're not allowed/advised to be looking at your phone and throwing pokeballs...

This puts the 'Go' back in 'Pokemon Go'

I'm one of those people that likes to play mobile games and do as much as I can without spending anything. Squeezing each perk or special event for everything it can to keep up with the Jones'. However, what that ended up doing was making it tough to enjoy being outside because I knew I -could- be catching something or spinning a stop. Sure, I was outside more - but I was walking slower and staring at my phone as I did it. This little device lets me set it and forget it - and I'm back to jogging with the dog or eating at a restaurant that is in range of a few stops without even once glancing at my phone. I'm back to 'playing' the game instead of 'living' the game. I don't think I could put a price on that, but if I had to, it'd be more than the $35 I shelled out here.As far as reviews on functionality go - it easily lasts a full day of use, successfully hooks up to two phones at the same time, and while sometimes it needs a little reprogramming between uses (just use the app), that's very quick and painless to do. I've used it for about a week and I'd happily recommend it.

Good idea, very poor build quality. Don't waste your money.

The device sounds great in concept but the build quality is very poor. I had constant connection issues with my S10+, it seemingly never stayed connected for more than a few minutes, every time I would look at the Pokemon Go app, it was disconnected again. And when it WAS connected, it would catch pokemon and spin pokestops for a few minutes, then it would just stop doing those things for no discernible reason. And now, after owning it for a week, it just stopped turning on and I can't get it to turn on anymore. I've tried plugging it into the wall again, holding the button for several seconds to reset it, but there is no reaction from the device, I think it's just dead.So there's 50 bucks down the drain. Don't buy this thing, it just doesn't work and it costs WAY too much. Learn from my mistake please!

Great design, disconnects constantly unless phone is held in the same hand

UPDATE: As long as I hold the phone in the same hand that I wear the Go-tcha on it stays connected for long periods of time. Honestly, this makes it usable, and adds 2 stars back to this review from 2 to 4. It's a limitation, but at least it's clear how to make it workI was so excited about this device after the Brooks Gotcha thing died out on me (I think I overloaded the battery? It would not turn on). This version (evolve) is MUCH bigger, and most importantly it TELLS YOU HOW CHARGED IT IS AS YOU CHARGE IT. I do think it lies about this because the charge reading is kind of logarithmic. It jumps to 50% in a few seconds but it can be many many minutes until it hits 75%. Honestly, I dislike how big it is, but I was excited about the prospect of this item not dying on me.All excitement left me as I started to use the device. Every minute or two it disconnects from the phone. It just does NOT work as you would want it. Go for a 10 minute walk and maybe 30 seconds will get captured. It is an overpriced frustration device. Sure, if you are actively playing Pokémon GO you can keep an eye on the connection and repair every minute to keep it going but you should just play the game normally at that point.I just wanted something that would capture a few Pokemon while I walked with my wife without having to be sucked into the game like an annoying partner. If the devices are marketed as doing this function they should do that function.I have wasted money trying out this and the Brooks Gotcha and this one is way worse. I feel like as long as you don’t charge the regular Gotcha (maybe never charge more than 20 minutes) that device is far suoerior. This hulking monstrosity is all show and no form.Seller was great and delivered the item as described. Nothing against them or their professionalism, just pass on this item.
