MASTER MARK Dig-Free Poundable Edging (Black)

It is not made of stainless steel!
In the first place, almost all of the pictures depict the product upside down. The points go down.I bought my first pack of this edging 2 years ago so it is going into its third summer and looks just fine..., especially considering that it has been severely weed whacked a couple times a month. One thing about this first packet I used. I have zoysia grass which is very thick, yet I used a large wooden mallet to drive the edging through it. It was fairly difficult and I broke one in frustration by hitting too hard. The beds that I have surrounded with the two other packs I purchased were done with a little more forethought. First I painted a line where the edging would go, waited for it to rain and while the soil was softened, I used one of those half moon edgers to slice a line on the paint. If you want to get your knees damp, you can practically push the edging down to the point where the points disappear. Use a wide rubber or wooden mallet. This will leave you about 4" or a bit more which is excellent for weed whacking and not hiding low plants in the bed.

Quite good for the price
For the price, these are the best edging option I have found. I'm a not terribly strong middle-aged lady gardener, and they were not difficult to get in. I just used a rock! Not recommended, as my wrist ached afterward. Like another reviewer, I found that linking together a 2-ft section and then pounding it in seemed to work well. Yes, when you get one hammered in the others down the line pop back up some, but it isn't hard to get them all in reasonably straight. I didn't attempt any fancy shapes. They do the job I needed them to do, which is 1.) separate grass and flower bed, and 2.) keep dirt from running into the sidewalk and street in the strip along the road. I'll be ordering more to complete the landscaping. They don't look especially attractive or professional. As far as I can tell, there's no way to get my garden beds to look that good UNLESS I hire a pro, which I'm not about to do. I'd rather spend the money on fabulous plants.

An inexpensive solution to garden borders.
Pros: Inexpensive, Black keeps them from looking dirty or showing any mildew, great for small areas, easy to make round.Cons: They will slice your hands up fairly easily putting them together, hard to assemble, They are only 6" tall (8" would be better), segments are 6" long which makes keeping a solid shape difficult. Not very easy to keep them in straight line*(see below)I intended to use these to make a peanut-shaped island in my yard and then to edge a sidewalk (straight). But they are very hard to get shapes other than round. First, they are very hard to put together but that's okay because that means they *should* stay together. The locking system on them is unnecessary as they should just have a straight male/female side since they are pounded in the ground. Despite what the direction say, it's easier to put them in with maybe 2 foot segments, pound them in, and then add another section. Make sure the ground is not just moist but wet. Here in Florida, they are no problem getting in the ground. The other review was from Colorado where the ground is rocky and I'm sure it was a nightmare to get them in.The other problem is getting them to all stay perfectly upright. When they come from the box, they'll be slightly warped which makes them difficult to work with. Let them sit in the sun and get hot and then they flatten out and are easier to assemble. These would be perfect for a small area, a mail box, or for an area you don't need an exact shape. For me, since they will eventually keep grass away from my mulch/ keep mulch out of grass, the shape I was able to get them in is fine. This is a cheap alternative to buying the expensive rock borders at Home Depot/Lowes. If you're looking for a temporary or a inexpensive solution, then I recommend these.

Changed EVERYTHING!!
Whomever the manufacturer. I know you're trying to make a buck. But good Gosh!! These are WAY thinner than I used them last time!! And I actually "reordered" the same ones!! The color has changed. The way they "pound"into the ground requires more effort and patience!! Buyer beware! This is NOT THE SAME!!

We used these for a border to our garden - went in pretty easily (we did dig a row to put them in first and then filled the sides with dirt after having pounded them in and lined them up). Only complaint is that on the tops where the 2 pieces connect - on some of them the plastic wasn't cut out all of the way so they pieces wouldn't slide together perfectly - on some we cut out but since we had some extras we didn't worry about it. The end result looks good and we are happy with the quality of the plastic.

Master Mark Plastics 97220 BorderMaster Edging - My Favorite!
I’ve been using BorderMaster Poundable Edging for years. It’s my favorite edging for lawn and garden projects. I’m using this latest order to edge my peach and apple trees, then fill them in with mulch. Each piece is 6"x6" and you get a total of 20 feet in one order. You can get this product in black or green and it creates a nice scalloped edging. The pieces fit together quickly and easily and you can pound them into the ground with a hammer (rubber mallet best). A corner coupler is included in each order.I like that this edging is a recycled material that will not easily disintegrate.

Not the same as the picture.
The photo is not what I received. One end of the edging as not pointed. Both sides were the same- just scalloped. I originally purchased this particular item because of the pointed ends. Unfortunately I had to dig trenches to install the edging. Not happy about that.

Made to last, and a great price. Looks nice too.
I would have given this 5 stars, except it is not really poundable in most soil. If you spend the $30 on a Yard Butler EDGE-180 Manual Lawn Edger, installation is a snap though. 4 stars because the plastic seems like it will last quite a while even in the Florida sun I have here. Ran over one with a lawnmower and the edging didn't get too banged up so I was very pleasantly surprised. Stands up very well to getting hit with a weed wacker too. So I am quite satisfied.
