Mizuno G4 Youth Samurai Catcher's Helmet

My 8 year old son decided he wants to be a catcher. So we started him out with a Rawlings starter catchers gear set. While it served it's purpose he quickly outgrew it.So after a lot of research we opted to go with this set. We decided to order each piece separately because it gave more flexibility in sizing and our son is larger than the average 8 year old.This is a well built helmet. The chin padding is adjustable to allow for a more comfortable fit. It comes with a bag to keep the helmet in, though we tend not to use it because it's usually a sweaty mess when the game is over so we opted to allow it to air out.My son was so excited to get the set and loves it. He's proud to gear up and feels extra protected out there.

The boys love it. I got a couple of old helmets from the league, but I was not happy with them and wanted the boys to feel comfortable and want to be in the catcher position.This fits the majority of the kids really well, ages from 9-11. I love the look and the construction.It has such a nice opening for vision that I've asked the boys to attempt to leave it on for their throw/catch vs throwing the helmet off. I'll get back to the Amazon community as more of the boys wear it.I like it though, I bought a wilson 4" neck protector as well (cheaper) and that makes it legal in our league.

After a lot of research, both online and at our local fields, I decided to get this catcher's helmet. It didn't hurt that it was on sale as well, so it was an even easier decision. This is a very well made helmet. Great protection and the padding on the inside is very comfortable. I didn't measure my sons head before purchase, but I did use his hat size, so I knew it would fit. What I wasn't counting on was how tight the back piece was/is. Once the helmet is on, it is super comfortable, but getting it on and off isn't as easy as some of the other helmets I've seen. My son doesn't reach up and toss this one off, as I don't think he can. The back plate comes attached with two elastic straps, and I think I have loosened them as much as they will go, but it's still snug. I've seen other players with this exact helmet, and they can take it off really quickly. So either I'm missing something, or the straps just need to break in a little more; I'm not sure. Other than that, at $100, this was a fabulous helmet for my son's first year of catching. I'd like to get him the whole Samurai set, but the leg guards were a little long for him right now.

Mizuno is a great and reliable brand of catcher's gear. My daughter loves this helmet, she is 10.

Fit is great, the green is Forrest green not bright green like shown. The foam pieces on the backplate on this helmet do not stay put for long! My son has used this helmet for 2 years, you would think at this price point it would be more durable. Customer service at Amazon and Mizuno are not helpful!

Fits well

We’ve only used Mizuno gear ever but this helmet fell apart after maybe the second wear. All of the pads fell out and the clips broke. Hasn’t even been worn in a game yet. Hoping they’ll honor a replacement because we’ve had it just over a month. Super bummed to be dealing with this already and hope it’s a fluke.
